The plant succession that has occurred over the last 250 years due to deglaciation has left the park with extensive plant communities. The lowland forest is dominated by a Sitka spruce and western hemlock forest. At an increased elevation, the upland forest, mountain hemlock form a broken canopy giving light for smaller shrubbery to take root. The beach meadows are covered with grasses, wildflowers, and umbellifers such as cow parsnip. Aquatic producers include algae, kelp, and phytoplankton.
Consumers
The aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems in the park also provide an extensive community of consumers. Some aquatic consumers include the mighty humpback whale, the harbor seal, the pacific herring, and the ferocious killer whale. Terrestrial consumers include the black bear, the brown bear, Sitka black tailed deer, and the moose.
